PT – Penetrant Testing
PT Inspection stands for Penetrant Testing, also known as Liquid Penetrant Testing (LPT). It’s a widely used non-destructive testing (NDT) method for detecting surface-breaking defects in non-porous materials like metals, plastics, or ceramics. 🔍 What It Involves: - A liquid dye (penetrant) is applied to the surface. - After a dwell time, excess dye is removed. - A developer is applied to draw out the penetrant from flaws. - Inspectors then visually examine the surface under appropriate lighting (often UV light for fluorescent dyes). It’s especially useful for detecting cracks, porosity, laps, seams, and other surface discontinuities.
